I’m A Celebrity: Can Jake Quickenden steal Bullard’s crown?

Published:

After failing to make it as a footballer and then a singer it was easy to write off Jake Quickenden’s chances of even becoming a successful I’m  A Celebrity contestant but the Scunthorpe lad seems to be well on his way.

After an impressive trial on Sunday night’s show, in which he bagged a full complement of 10 stars, the X Factor flop has been cut to just 6/1 to win the show outright.

According to the betting, Quickenden is the only other contestant capable of giving show favourites Jimmy Bullard and Mel Sykes a run for the money.

Bullard has long been the jolly and his morale-boosting performances in the camp have seen him shorten to 4/6 to win outright, while Mel, who impressed with a nine-star haul in her own trial on Saturday, can be backed at 5/2.

With Carl Fogarty next in the betting at 20/1, it looks as if Quickenden, who was dumped out of the X Factor in the early stages of this year’s live finals, is the only one capable of breaking up the Bullard-Sykes dominance.

Ladbrokes’ Jessica Bridge claimed that Jake’s willingness to woo Playboy model Kendra Wilksinson away from her on/off husband is spiking the interest of viewers at home.

“Jake’s relishing his 15 minutes of fame, but peculiarly that doesn’t appear to be deterring punters, and instead they’ve quickly piled into his chances of winning and we’ve had to slash the odds,” she said.

“Kendra and Jake are on course to be the new Katie and Peter, and the odds suggest it won’t be long before there’s a fumble in the jungle.”

The romance could well be a showmance, however, with Wilkinson currently viewed as a massive underdog at 33/1.

A fling with Quickenden would certainly see her stick around for longer but if anyone looks set to really benefit from the tryst, it’s the 26-year-old Scunnie lad.
