Fury v Chisora II: Tyson wins trash talk by unanimous decision
Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora will finally step through the ropes in London this weekend but with a number of high-profile bouts recently taking place the build-up has been somewhat subdued.
Tony Bellew, Nathan Cleverly, James DeGale and George Groves have all had their share of the limelight and even Billy Joe Saunders and Chris Eubank Junior – fighting on the Fury v Chisora undercard – have hogged some of the column inches their top-of-the-bill colleagues craved.
However, even with Fury attending one press conference with tape around his mouth you can’t keep the Manchester fighter quiet for too long and here we look at the highlights of the build-up so far.
Fury has his detractors but no one can knock the big man’s confidence and he showed that with a recent outburst comparing himself to historical greats and a three-time Grand National winner!
“I’m like Achilles, Hector and Alexander the Great. I’m like Red Rum, people like me only come round every 500 years. I’m unbeaten, I’m flying high and I’ll be the champion very soon,|” he said.
Fury is also known for being outright disrespectful of his previous opponents, dismissing the likes of David Haye, Kevin Johnson and Steve Cunningham.
However, he revealed that he has given Chisora plenty of thought in preparation for this bout but still gave punters an outright prediction, saying: “All I’ve thought about for seven months is Dereck Chisora. I’ll knock him out in rounds five to seven.”
Del Boy is not one to hold back or mince his words, just look at how he confronted Haye after his loss to Vitali Klitschko.
The Londoner has been relatively calm in the build-up to this fight, by his own standards, but is confident he’ll let his boxing do the talking describing the fight as the “easiest” of his career.
“Has he progressed since he beat me? No, he hasn’t. He’s at least four steps behind me,” he said.
“I’m going to be much better than him in the ring with the movement and the power. On my bad day, he couldn’t knock me out. So when I’m fit, imagine what’s going to happen this time.”
