Djokovic to close season with ATP Tour Finals win over Federer
Novak Djokovic has already ensured he ends the year as world number one ahead of Roger Federer and now in the ATP Tour Finals showpiece he has the chance to polish off another fine year in style.
Having provided a clean sweep of winning tips for Federer’s epic semi-final triumph over Stanislas Wawrinka, we offer a quartet of potentially money-spinning punts for the O2 finale:
These are not the most lucrative odds but the straight-up Djokovic win forms the basis for the other bets and it covers bases.
Although Federer beat the Serb in the semi-finals of Shanghai recently, the Swiss wasn’t coming into the match having just been involved in a gruelling 2hr 48 minute match not even 24 hours previously as he will be in London.
Further to the physical toll on Federer, Djokovic has claimed the last two ATP Tour finals titles at the 02, which included defeating this opponent in straights sets in the 2012 final and in the round-robin stage last year.
This bet would have landed in every one of the last seven meetings between the two players, which is testament to the incredible resurgence 33-year-old Federer has shown over the past 12 months.
Away from their unforgettable five-set Wimbledon final showdown this year, the last three times Djokovic has beaten Federer it has been by a 2-1 scoreline.
Two of those came on Paris and London’s indoor courts.
Frequent tiebreaks in matches between these great warriors are no surprise given their abilities.
Two of their last three indoor meetings required a tiebreak, while five of their last nine matches on across the different surfaces have resulted in at least one set going the maximum distance.
