Crystal Palace win with goals at both ends given tempting boost

Published:

If anything is going to coax Sunderland out of their scoring slumber, then perhaps playing Crystal Palace on a night that seems to produce plenty of them will do the trick.

The Black Cats have only managed to find the net eight times in the Premier League this season, a tally that is comfortably among the worst in the division, but there is something about the Eagles and Monday nights that seems suck the ball into the net.

As we mentioned in our match preview of the game, there have been 17 goals in the last three top-flight matches involving Palace on a Monday night, a stat that should have neutrals purring at the thought of an evening spent watching the net ripple endlessly.

But while that stat may give Mackems hope over an improved performance infront of goal, their own record to end the footballing week means they shouldn’t expect a win.

Sunderland haven’t won any of their last 20 matches to be played on a Monday, losing 12 of those top-flight encounters.

It all means that the decision by Ladbrokes to enhance the price on Crystal Palace securing victory and both teams finding the net looks a brave one, with the odds on such an outcome bloated from 10/3 to 4/1.
