Of all the clubs chasing Inter man, Liverpool are the best fit

Published:

Having started every Serie A game for Inter Milan this season, along with two of the club’s four in the Europa League, there seems little reason for Mateo Kovacic to quit the Italian club anytime soon.

When you consider that the Croatian midfielder has been one of Walter Mazzarri’s better performers too, the feeling of keeping the 20-year-old on the Nerazzurri books should be felt all round.

That hasn’t stopped Kovacic’s international teammate, Dario Srna, from urging the youngster to flee Italy in order to better his career though.

“Kovacic is one of the best young players in Italy. But if he wants to prosper, he must change path. Inter is not where he will achieve his best,” the Shakhtar Donetsk full-back said.

Should he listen to his Vatreni captain, then the former Dinamo Zagreb star will find a vast array of suitors waiting to snap up his services, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Real Madrid all keen.

If Srna, the football-turned-life-coach, cares to expand on the advice he gives to his Austrian-born teammate, then he would do well to steer the ball-playing midfielder towards Anfield.

It is at the Reds where the Croatian would fit best, with his passing ability and defensive nous making him a natural successor to Steven Gerrard as the quarterback at the back of Brendan Rodgers’ midfield diamond.

Liverpool, who can be backed at 19/10 to finish in the top four, clearly don’t value Lucas Leiva in the role of Gerrard 2.0, so could well be persuaded to launch a bid for Kovacic, should Srna be on hand to offer yet more wisdom.
