Australia to triumph in both rugby codes in our best bets

Published:

There is no better time to widen your sporting horizons beyond football than during the international break, with Euro 2016 qualifying far from the most exciting action on the box this weekend.

Both rugby union and rugby league have huge clashes on their calendar, while another round of NBA fixtures gives ample opportunity for savvy punters to cash in.

Here are our three best bets for the weekend:

NBA – Charlotte Hornets first to 20 points v Phoenix Suns @ 5/4

The Hornets are yet to avoid defeat on the road so far this season, but that 0-4 record is not due to sluggish starts.

They have reached the 20-point mark first in both of their last two games, away at the LA Lakers and the Portland Trailblazers, and in three of their past four overall.

Meanwhile the Suns have been slow out of the blocks at home, having been beaten to the 20-point mark in three of their last four, all of which were in front of their own fans.

Rugby League – Australia to beat New Zealand @ 8/11

The two host nations go head to head in the final of the Four Nations, and we’re backing Australia to triumph despite New Zealand winning the group stage of the event.

The Kangaroos have made each and every one of the four Four Nations finals since the competition began in 2009, and they’ve won the whole shebang in two of three played so far.

Although Australia were beaten 30-12 by the Kiwis in the group stages, that was the first time they had lost to New Zealand since the Four Nations final back in 2010, with the Kangaroos winning eight in a row.

Rugby Union – Australia to beat France @ 4/5

The pair have already met three times in 2014, with the Wallabies beating Les Bleus three times when France toured Australia in June.

France broke a four-game losing streak when they beat Fiji last time out, but face a far tougher test in the shape of Michael Cheika’s Wallabies, who won 33-28 in Wales in their most recent match.
