ATP Tour Finals: Federer to edge Stan in Swiss showdown at O2

Published:

Roger Federer and compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka will put their Davis Cup camaraderie to one side at London’s O2 Arena as the Swiss stars do battle for a place in the ATP Tour Finals showpiece.

In what promises to be a thrilling semi-final for the assembled masses under the capital’s biggest canopy, we’ve studied all the relevant numbers to come up with three top tips for the contest.

Roger Federer to win 2-1 @ 10/3

While number two seed Federer is yet to drop a set in his first three matches in London, he was taken to a tiebreak by David Ferrer in the round-robin stages and Wawrinka should bring a considerable challenge to his countryman with so much at stake.

Although Federer holds a hefty head-to-head advantage over the Australian Open champion (16-2) Wawrinka has taken at least a set off him over their past four meetings, which included a rare 2-1 victory to take the title in Monte Carlo earlier this year.

If the pendulum is to swing one way over a tight contest indoors though, it has to be Federer’s, who owns a 10/1 record indoors this season coming into the semi final.

Over 23.5 total games @ 7/4

This bet would have landed in each one of their last three matches contested over the regulation ATP Tour distance.

Tiebreak to be played in the match: Yes @ 11/8

This may be the best bet of the lot judging by recent meetings. A tiebreak has been required in every one of their last six tussles across all surfaces.

A third of those tiebreaks have arrived in the opening set, lending credence to tasty odds of 7/2 that the first set goes the maximum distance.
