Southampton ready to break the bank for former Chelsea target

Southampton’s brilliant start to the season may have raised plenty of eyebrows in some quarters after the events of the summer but Ronald Koeman is already planning ahead with various media reports linking the Dutchman with a record-breaking move for Palermo star Paulo Dybala.
The Saints boss is reportedly ready to break the bank – and his club’s transfer record – to boost his squad and bring the Argentine to the Premier League.
The St Mary’s outfit face a battle to sign the 20-year-old after Palermo owner Maurizio Zamparini stated it would take a huge transfer fee to capture the signature of the former Instituto forward.
But it has not deterred Saints from making a bid with Koeman ready to pay more than the £15m record transfer fee the club paid Roma to land Dani Osvaldo.
Southampton will be hoping any potential deal turns out better than the Osvaldo transfer but Dybala’s performances this season have been enough to convince Koeman about taking him to the south coast.
Dybala has scored three times for the Sicilian club so far this season and his performances have been attracting admiring glances across Europe.
Chelsea were reportedly interested in the player before he opted to join the Serie A outfit and it is uncertain whether they would jump back into the race for his signature.
But Koeman, whose side currently lie in second in the Premier League just four points behind Chelsea, is ready to make his move and strengthen his side as they look to sustain their current form.
Southampton are still huge outsiders to win the Premier League at 80/1 with Ladbrokes but while that is still a long way off the club are available at 3/1 to finish in the top four.
If Saints can sustain their excellent form until January and then tempt Dybala to join their revolution then that price could prove to be good value by the New Year.
