Volvo World Matchplay: McDowell the glue in Day 2 fourfold

Published:

The Volvo World Matchplay is up and running at the London Golf Club and some familiar faces are backed to win their second group matches, including defending champion Graeme McDowell.

The below fourfold based on half of the eight games to go out on day two of the event pays out a odds close to 11/1 if successful.

Grame McDowell to beat Mikko Ilonen @ 8/13

After defeating Alexander Levy 3&2 in the first match of day one this tweet from the European Tour said it all: “Not bad! Graeme McDowell’s last 17 matches at the Volvo World Match Play Championship: WWWLWWWWWLWWWWWWW.” The Portrush man is right at home in this format.

Henrik Stenson to beat Francesco Molinary @ 4/5

Ryder Cup star Stenson couldn’t shake stubborn South African George Coetzee in his opening 2-ball, having to settle for a halved match. However, we’re backing the super Swede to bounce back against Italian Molinari, who went down by two holes and comes here off the back of a missed cut at the Portugal Open.

Joost Luiten to beat Alexander Levy @ 1/1

The other danger man in McDowell’s group is Dutchman Luiten who successfully saw off Ilonen on day one and has been in sparkling late season form on the European Tour. Luiten posted a win and three top-fives in his last four tournament starts before arriving at the London GC.

Thongchai Jaidee to beat George Coetzee @ 1/1

Thailand’s finest and last season’s beaten finalist kicked off his title challenge with a win over Molinari, although he did three-putt the 17th to leave himself a slightly nervy finish. Jaidee has made every single one of 20 cuts on the European Tour this season, so will be focused on booking his weekend slot early again.
