Sterling work if Chelsea can capture Raheem signing

It is being reported that Chelsea are preparing to dig deep into their pockets and attempt to bring Raheem Sterling to Stamford Bridge in January.

A fee of around £48m has been mooted as the required amount to secure the Liverpool attacker, as Sterling continues to discuss a new deal at Anfield, although it is claimed he is open to a move away from Merseyside.

Jose Mourinho’s Blues side could have competition for the 19-year-olds signature with PSG and Real Madrid rumoured to be eyeing up a Premier League raid.

The youngster was substituted at half time in England’s 5-0 victory over San Marino, with the Three Lions failing to impress in the opening 45 minutes.

That is not, however, a fair summary of Sterling’s international career to date. The Kingston-born winger has looked more than capable of being a shining light in Roy Hodgson’s side and looks to have a very bright future ahead of him.

He has also started the 2014/15 campaign well for Liverpool, netting three times and providing two assists in seven appearances as the Reds look to overcome an average start to the season.

Securing his signature would not only bolster Chelsea’s attacking threat, but would also help the four-time Premier League champions bolster the home-grown options in their squad.

They currently only boast three players (Cesc Fabregas, John Terry and Gary Cahill), over 21-years-old who fall into the ‘Homegrown’ criteria.

While Sterling isn’t yet of the age that matters, the ability to fill a position in their 25-man squad with a player of his talent, while adding another to their quota of home grown players, will be indispensible in a couple of years.

If Mourinho can secure his signature, the Blues’ march to the title could speed up even more, with a price of 1/2 currently on offer on The Special One lifting a third Premier League trophy.
