Royals poised to take World Series to a deciding Game 7
Published:The Kansas City Royals must be thanking their lucky stars for home-field advantage as the World Series heads back to Kauffman Stadium, with the Boys in Blue trailing 3-2 to the San Francisco Giants and just one defeat from elimination.
Another Madison Bumgarner show of excellence on the mound helped hand the Orange and Black the advantage, but if they are to claim their third Commissioners Trophy in five years and become the toast of the Major Leagues, they’ll have to do it on the road.
That is quite a challenge considering home teams trailing 3-2 in the Series have rallied to win it all on eight of the last 10 occasions and it’s those statistics, coupled with playing at home, that make the Royals the 20/29 favourites for victory in Game 6.
Should all of that not fill the hosts with enough self-assurance, their starting pitcher can fill the void that’s left.
23-year-old Yordano Ventura pitched 5⅓ innings in Game 2 and allowed two runs on eight hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
More effectiveness of that ilk should help the Royals capitalise on Giants pitcher Jake Peavey’s fragile mindset.
He was yanked out with two runners on having given up four runs in his previous five innings.
That sixth inning then ended up exploding for five Royals runs and sent the hosts on their way to a 7-2 win that levelled the series.
They say lightening never strikes in the same place twice. But in a series with so many twists and turns so far it would be fitting for that myth to be broken to send the side’s to a Game 7.
