Robredo to overcome Murray heartache at Paribas Masters

Published:

Just one tournament remains before the world’s best eight players can descend on the O2 Arena for the ATP World Finals, but first the BNP Paribas Masters needs to be contested to decide on the final entry list for London.

The top seeds have been given a bye into the second round, leaving some odds-on chances as some of the better bets for the second day’s play:

Gael Monfils to beat Joao Sousa 2-0 @ 4/7

The Portuguese world number 49 beat his French opponent a mere eight matches ago, but rather than act a springboard to form it’s rather put him out of sync.

Sousa has won just one more match since defeating Monfils in Metz while the world number 20 arrives in Paris well rested having not taken to the courts since Sousa’s defeat.

David Goffin to beat Lukas Rosol 2-0 @ 10/11

Goffin has been in scintillating form of late, with a run of 14 straight victories only ended by the incomparable Roger Federer in the final of the Swiss Indoors in Basel last time out.

Rosol can only dream of that kind of shape, having lost six times in his last seven matches. He may have enjoyed the better of his last two tussles with his Belgian rival, but those came on clay and Goffin should be backed without hesitation.

Tommy Robredo to beat Vasek Pospisil @ 1/1

Losing five match points in a tournament final isn’t the best psychological preparation for a new event, but Robredo’s recent defeat to Andy Murray should actually stand him in good stead.

The Spaniard didn’t drop a set on his way to the Valencia final and the fact he gave himself so many opportunities to beat the Scot proves his game is in high order heading into this match.
