Ranking 2014’s three-year-old Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe fillies

Published:

In recent years the excellent record of fillies and mares in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe has gone interstellar.

The fairer sex have won four of the last six runnings, with three-year-olds particularly successful due to the chunky weight allowance they receive from all comers.

It’s an advantage reflected in the betting for this year’s renewal, with three of the top five in the betting classic generation fillies.

Which one of is best placed to do the business at Longchamp in Europe’s richest horse race? Read on to find out how news.ladbrokes.com rank them.

3. Avenir Certain @ 7/1

Jean-Claude Rouget’s filly may be one of only two unbeaten types in the contest, but that hasn’t stopped Gregory Benoist giving her the elbow in favour of the other, Ectot.

The ship-jumping pilot can be forgiven for having qualms about a filly that has yet to race against the boys or older rivals, while the closest pair to her last time out to race again since could only place at listed level.

2. Taghrooda @ 5/1

Trainer John Gosden may have put a line through her shock defeat to Tapestry last time out, saying she’d come into season during the contest, yet there are other doubts surrounding the filly.

Her King George win is the piece of form that her backers will hang their hats on, but it was far from the strongest renewal of the summer championship, with the closeness of the supremely average Mukhadram at the line no great compliment.

1. Harp Star @ 7/1

If Japan’s luck is finally to change in the Arc, then this daughter of Deep Impact has every chance of doing so, especially as the soft ground that twice sabotaged Orfevre is not expected in Paris this Saturday.

Only Taghrooda and Just A Way have better Racing Post ratings in the field and with her sole run over 1m4f to date a fast finishing second having been left too much to do, she’s expected to make use of a blistering turn of foot to stake her claim.Ranking 2014’s three-year-old Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe fillies
