Price Boost: Schurrle enhanced to prove his Chelsea worth

With striking options at a premium at Chelsea, their midweek trip to Shrewsbury could be an unlikely launch pad to a prolonged spell in the Blues’ attacking arsenal for some players.

Jose Mourinho is likely to rotate his squad for their Capital One Cup tie at Greenhous Meadow and it could come to Andre Schurrle to spearhead the visitor’s forward line.

And in true Ladbrokes fashion, the bookmaker has been quick to offer a great price boost about the German, with the former Bayer Leverkusen man now 11/2 from 9/2 to open the scoring in Shropshire.

This could be the chance the number 14 needs to prove his worth to the Stamford Bridge outfit, with the continued uncertainty about Diego Costa and Loic Remy currently sidelined with a groin injury.

Schurrle was employed in a ‘False Nine’ position a number of times last season, more often than not during cup competitions.

He is likely to adopt a very prominent position in the attack on Jayson Leutwiler’s goal, and there are far worse shouts to break the deadlock.

Despite the fact that he has started just 31 matches in all competitions for Chelsea, he has bagged 11 goals in his time in west London.

And while there are sure to be plenty of changes to the Premier League side’s line-up, Mourinho will know that he cannot discount the Shrews.

Micky Mellon’s side haven’t been beaten on home turf in a competitive fixture since April and are currently flying high in fourth in League Two as they look to secure promotion straight back to the third tier in English football.

They can be backed at 11/1 to cause an upset to end all upsets, or 5/1 to take the game to extra time.

But for those with a more realistic outlook, the 1/4 on the powerhouse of Chelsea running out straight forward winners, look a sure-fire pick.
