Popular Lauren Platt set to rival Andrea for X Factor favouritism

Published:

A wave of support has seen Lauren Platt vie for X Factor favouritism after week two. Cheryl’s 16-year-old hopeful was described as having the performance of the night by the four-strong panel of judges and certainly seems to have the backing of the punters too.

A flurry of betting activity saw the Essex teenager’s odds to win the show tumble to 7/2, a fall that ensured Italian favourite Andrea Faustini’s price drifted slightly to 15/8.

After her stripped back version of What A Feeling received glowing praise from the judges, Platt is clearly impressing early on in the competition.

Her opening offering, a new take on Pharrell Williams’ smash-hit Happy, also struck the right chord with the American star ringing Platt’s praises on the results show the following night.

At the wrong end of the betting, last week’s sing-off survivor, Steph Nala, is installed as the favourite to get the chop at 11/8, although a slated version of Total Eclipse of the Heart saw Jake Quickenden secure a flurry of bets in that market.

Mel B’s singer has been backed into second favourite to be the next contestant voted off the show, at 7/2, with Chloe Jasmine next in line at 5/1.

However, it’s the support for Lauren that has got Ladbrokes talking, with Jessica Bridge saying: “The sheer volume of support for Lauren in just a matter of hours is rocking the market. She’s looking like a serious contender to jostle favouritism out of Andrea’s hands.”
