Norwich striker emerging as one of 5 Euro 2016 qualifying stars
Published:Contrary to popular anticipation, the recent Euro 2016 qualifiers threw up all sorts of entertainment, with scalps being taken for fun and all the home nations managing to further their causes.
In celebration of this oddly refreshing international break, we’ve shone the news.Ladbrokes spotlight on some emerging talent to have really caught the eye.
Kyle Lafferty – Northern Ireland
Although Norwich’s new striker is yet to kick-off his Carrow Road career with a goal, the 6ft 4” frontman has been forging history for his country.
Lafferty’s three goals in as many qualifiers have propelled Northern Ireland to the summit of Group F where the former Rangers man has helped inspire a trio of opening qualifying wins for the very first time.
Northern Ireland are now 9/2 second-favourites behind Romania to win Group F.
Arkadiusz Milik – Poland
Currently on loan from Bayer Leverkusen at Ajax, the 20-year-old striker is certainly one to keep tabs on.
Milik kicked off the scoring in Poland’s famous win over world champions Germany, before weighing in with a vital equaliser against Scotland.
Ikechi Anya – Scotland
Watford’s 26-year-old winger may have journeyed around a bit before settling at Vicarage Road, but he’s proving that Championship level players can excel on the international stage.
Anya not only scored against Germany, but expertly set up Shaun Maloney’s opener in Poland and is a real livewire.
Omer Damari – Israel
Four goals in the last two games have put Austria Wien’s 25-year-old striker on the international map, albeit three of those came in a hat-trick against minnows Andorra.
Still, the striker forged an excellent scoring record when at Hapoel Tel Aviv and his continental stock could rise further as part of an exciting Israeli side.
Paco Alcacer – Spain
It wasn’t all bad news for the Spanish in the end, who were tripped up away to Slovakia. The scorer that day subsequently added another in a 4-0 rout of lowly Luxembourg.
The great news for Spain, who’ve seen prolific striker David Villa retire and Fernando Torres lose his mojo in spectacular fashion, is that Valencia forward Alcacer is still only a baby at 21.
