Jets @ Patriots: Gronkowski certain to score with Brady improving

Published:

At 37 years of age, Tom Brady is tired. But not quite as tired as the “form is temporary, class is permanent” cliché he has embodied during this NFL season.

As the New England Patriots split the first four games of the season, Brady completed just 59 per cent of his passes in throwing four touchdowns with two interceptions and was written off as ageing and ineffectual.

In the last two starts, the California slinger has upped his completion rate by 10 per cent, has connected on six scoring passes and has been pick-free across his 653 passing yards. Nobody is talking now.

The good times are likely to roll for the two-time MVP when his Patriots host the New York Jets. Brady has won six straight home games against the men in green and has thrown nine touchdowns to one interception over the last five.

His Pats are heavy 2/9 favourites to extend what is already the Jets’ longest losing streak in seven years to a sixth outing.

While that price isn’t dazzling, there’s no way the 7/2 on the New York side is long enough to tempt anyone into opposing the hosts.

Instead, look to Rob Gronkowski, Brady’s favourite receiver, to get on the score sheet at any time at a price of 8/15.

Yes, we know it doesn’t look like we’re stretching our necks too close to the line, but the tight end is Brady’s go-to guy and enjoys facing Rex Ryan’s club.

The 25-year-old has 22 receptions for 305 yards in his last three games against the Jets with a most important four touchdowns in that time.
