Hull v Crystal Palace: Eagles to stick talons into wounded Tigers

Published:

Hull are winless in the Premier League since defeating QPR 1-0 on the opening day of the season at Loftus Road and the news doesn’t get much better with the visit of a Crystal Palace side growing in stature following successive victories.

For this reason the Tigers look too short at 1/1 for the points, with the draw more palatable at 12/5 and the Eagles’ odds of 11/4 the pick of the bunch on Humberside.

We’ve consulted the crystal ball, and the stats, to offer up three measured tips for the clash:

Crystal Palace to beat Hull @ 11/4

Home has been anything but an advantage to Hull recently, as their last five top-flight matches at the KC Stadium have returned just two points.

Hull’s poor league form actually stretches back to last season. Steve Bruce’s side have collected just seven of the last 33 points on offer since an FA Cup semi-final win back in April.

Conversely, Neil Warnock’s troops are in fine fettle having seen off Everton at Goodison Park and Leicester at home, while many of the travelling contingent – who completed a league double over Hull last season – will fancy their chances at the KC once again.

The Londoners have now won four, drawn twice and lost just one of their last seven on the road.

Over 3.5 goals @ 13/5

Hull’s problems do not stem from a lack of goals, rather the failure to keep them out of their own net.

The Tigers’ shaky defence has conceded at least twice in their last five matches, while scoring exactly twice in four of those.

Palace’s last two top-flight away trips have seen them rack up three goals each time, so both keepers ought to be on the busy side.

Away goal bands 2-3 @ 9/4

With the above stats in mind it looks like backing the Eagles to repeat a trick they’ve managed in four of five all-competition games away from Selhurst Park this season, should be profitable.
