Fleetwood poised to go one better at Portugal Masters with win
Published:While the PGA Tour embarks on a new season, its European cousin continues to wind down to a conclusion, with the Portugal Masters providing some scoring relief from the tough terrain of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

A fair few rungs on the betting ladder higher, Shane Lowry heads the pack at 14/1. The Irishman is a former winner of this tournament, having prevailed in 2012 by one stroke.
Lowry arrives on the Algarve in fine fettle, having followed up a T2 at the ISPS Handa Wales Open with a tied-sixth finish behind Wilson at the Alfred Dunhill.
On the whole, though, the 27-year-old’s season has been an inconsistent one that’s been without victory and it’s on that basis that siding with him should be swerved.
Instead, Englishman Tommy Fleetwood (a 16/1 chance) is picked to prevail for what too would be a maiden triumph this season.
Unlike Lowry though, the Southport native has been far more regular with his impressive performances during the campaign.
He’s finished as runner up in both the Alfred Dunhill and the Wales Open and was tied fifth four outings ago at the Omega European Masters.
All-in-all, Fleetwood has landed in the top-five of the leaderboard six times this season, with one top-10 thrown in for good measure.
What’s more, Englishmen have won four of the last seven Portugal Masters events, including two of the last four.
