Euro 2016 qualifying accumulator: Croatia and Iceland are in

Published:

With the entire English nation no doubt resting up after a rip-roaring win over San Marino, Friday’s round of fixtures offers up some seemingly forgettable Euro 2016 fare – that is, until we stumbled upon this 30/1 gem of a fourfold.

Featuring everyone’s favourite football-loving Balkan nation Croatia alongside Israel, Czech Republic and the place where Peter Andre and everyone’s mum goes to shop, Iceland, this is your chance to turn the £1 you were set to spend on a frozen pizza into something a little more substantial.

Croatia to beat Bulgaria @ 23/20

Luka Modric and the gang made a pigs-ear out of World Cup qualifying for Brazil 2014, squeezing through in the playoffs, but started the new campaign with a solid 2-0 win over Malta.

A trip to Bulgaria to meet a Dimitar Berbatov-less side, who only just squeezed passed Azerbaijan with a late goal in a 2-1 win last time, should pose few problems to Robert Kovac’s talented team.

Israel to beat Cyprus @ 11/10

At 34, this may be Yossi Benayoun’s last chance to reach a major finals but we fancy the rat-like boy wonder’s team to see off Cyprus, despite the hosts beating Bosnia and Herzegovina last time out.

Israel’s last game was a 4-2 victory over Honduras, while they previously held Portugal to a draw in Lisbon and with Cyprus without a win or a goal on home soil over their last four in Nicosia, an away win looks likely.

Iceland to beat Latvia @ 11/10

The undoubted stars of the first round of games, Iceland saw off Turkey in some style with a 3-0 win in Reykjavik to maintain the excellent form that saw them reach the World Cup qualification playoffs.

Latvia started their own campaign with a thoroughly unconvincing 0-0 draw with group minnows Kazakhstan and could come undone against an Iceland team that has a real shot at reaching the finals.

Czech Republic to beat Turkey @ 23/10

A tale of contrasting fortunes for these two on Matchday One, with Turkey trounced 3-0 by the aforementioned Scandinavian side while the Czechs sensationally beat Holland 2-1.

The Czechs won 2-0 on their last visit to Turkey and with memories of the infamous Euro 2008 collapse still in the minds of players like Petr Cech and Tomas Rosicky, revenge could well be on the cards for the visitors.
