England U21 v Croatia U21: Berahino Can Impress Watching Woy
A day on from England’s potentially sleep-inducing Euro 2016 qualifier with San Marino, there’s a doozy of an under-21 encounter involving our Young Lions team against a similar sprightly Croatia.
With the Balkan nation boasting a stunning array of young talent, the 5/1 available on a win for the away side could tempt the less patriotic among us, but for us at Ladbrokes Towers it’s all about the ½ offered on an England win, with the draw on at 14/5.
Ahead of an encounter that could serve as an audition for Roy Hodgson’s side for some, we’ve picked out three great bets to back – including two Premier League stars who could get on the scoresheet.
The 21-year-old has made blistering start to the season at West Brom with five goals in the Baggies’ first seven Premier League games and must be backed to find the net here.
Berahino scored twice in the Under-21 side’s last outing – a 3-0 victory away in Moldova – and on current form looks nailed on to score at some point against a Croatia side that has failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last four games.
Goals look to be the order of the day at Molineux, with both sides possessing plenty of attacking intent ahead of kick-off. Croatia have scored seven goals in their last three games, conceding a further three along the way and those statistics alone make over 2.5 goals likely here.
Throw in the fact that England have scored exactly three goals in three of their last four wins at this level and another goalfest looks a near-certainty.
If the Tottenham youngster can approach this encounter in the same way he does a Europa League tie, then a goal could be on the cards, with Kane already scoring against AEL Limassol and Besiktas in the aforementionedcompetition this term.
But it’s his recent record at under-21 level that makes a late goal likely, with the 21-year-old having the final word with the last goal in England’s last two outings at this level.
