Cambridge and Oxford to finish in the same boat in League Two clash

Published:

With Euro 2016 qualifying clogging up the agenda this weekend, those hankering after some English domestic football will be forced to drop down a few divisions.

One game that leaps off the page is Cambridge United’s clash with Oxford United, even if the pair’s rivalry is less fierce on the football pitch than it is on the Thames.

Cambridge are 8/5 to win, with the visitors priced at 7/4, but we’re expecting both sides to come away from the Abbey Stadium with a point.

Back the draw @ 9/4

The pair’s most recent clashes have been in the Conference, with the 2009/10 season the last time they faced off. Both matches that year were draws and a stalemate is likely this time around as well.

Cambridge have lost three of their past four home games, but as Oxford have the second-worst away record in League Two this season with two points from five matches, we’re not expecting them to take full advantage of their hosts’ generosity.

Cambridge to score first @ 20/21

Despite sitting 16th in League Two, only four sides have drawn first blood more often than Cambridge, who have notched the opener in six of their 11 games.

Add in the fact that no side in the division have conceded the first goal more often than Oxford, who have gone behind in seven of their 11 matches, and this bet looks nailed-on.

Both teams to score @ 5/6

Only Exeter, who have yet to produce even one shutout in the league, have racked up fewer clean sheets than Cambridge and Oxford, who have both registered just two in 11 matches.

The hosts have also been fairly irresistible going forward, failing to score in just two games, while Oxford have only drawn a blank twice in their last seven league matches.
