Champions Cup Rugby: Stick with Bath to make amends at home

Rugby’s shiny new European Champions Cup kicked off with a bang last week, with Munster’s ridiculous comeback at Sale, and Saracens’ downing Clermont Auvergne, among the highlights.

That pair of pill-chasing giants clash at Thomond Park in gameweek two, but neither makes it into our weekend acca, which will pay out at over 7/1 with a bit of luck.

Bath to beat Toulouse @ 4/7

Mike Ford’s Aviva Premiership upstarts have been foiled in their last two away fixtures, losing to Glasgow in this competition and last time out domestically on the road at Northampton, but back on home soil Bath look a very big price.

The last time Ford’s side failed to win at home was in a 19-19 draw against Saints back in April, and the visitors have little away form to speak of in the Top 14, losing all four of their 2014/15 road fixtures so far.

Sale +20 to beat Clermont Auvergne @ 10/11

After going into the break 23-7 at home to Munster last time out in this competition, Sale will feel a bit down in the dumps having lost the game 27-26, but they’re unlikely to get a battering here.

Clermont only just bested this mark at home against Top 14 small fry La Rochelle recently, while Sarries beat them 30-23 last time out in this competition at Allianz Park.

Leicester to beat Scarlets @ 4/7

Tigers have suffered a few odd reverses this term, with the 45-0 at great rivals Bath being the worst by far, but Richard Cockerill’s men have won three out of four fixtures since, including a 25-18 Champions Cup victory over Ulster last time at Welford Road.

Scarlets may be unbeaten on their own patch this term, but they’ve failed to win three of their last four matches and drew with Ulster at home this season, a line of form that will cheer the visitors.

Leinster to beat Castres @ 8/11

The hosts are third from bottom of the Top 14 after losing six of their nine domestic games this term, including last time out on the road 59-7 at Bordeaux-Begles.

Leinster, who lifted the Heineken Cup three times over the past six years and have won three of their last four fixtures, look a big price to keep up their 100% record in this new competition, after downing Wasps 25-20 in their first match.
