Cabaye unhappy at PSG – 4 possible destinations for French star

Published:

Former Newcastle star Yohan Cabaye has put a host of Premier League clubs on alert after revealing he is unhappy with his bit-part role at Paris Saint-Germain and misses England.

Speaking to French sports newspaper L’Equipe, the 28-year-old said: “Am I completely happy? To be honest, no. It is a new situation for me, but I don’t complain. It is the first time I haven’t played regularly for my club.

“Do I sometimes miss England? Yes. Sometimes I think about it, but I immediately sweep that away because it would cause distraction.

“I am at the Parc des Princes and I need to find the right atmosphere.”

There would be no shortage of takers in England for the former Lille man after his performances at St James’ Park for the Magpies during a three-year spell on Tyneside.

Oliver Yew takes a look at four possible destinations for the France international should he leave the Parc des Princes and come back across the English Channel to the Premier League.

Arsenal @ 7/2 (Cabaye next club odds)

With Mesut Ozil out until the New Year and both Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta struggling with injuries Cabaye could be the ideal man to come in to strengthen the Gunners’ midfield.

Arsene Wenger was interested in the Frenchman last summer before he signed for PSG and will surely go back in for Cabaye to reinforce a Gunners squad crippled by injuries, if he wants a Premier League return.

Manchester United @ 5/1

With Louis van Gaal still looking to sign a central midfielder he may be better served by bring Cabaye back to England than spending mega bucks on either Arturo Vidal or Kevin Strootman.

The French midfielder knows what it takes to be a star in England’s top flight and at half the price of either Vidal or Strootman it would free up funds at Old Trafford for some much needed strengthening at the back.

Liverpool @ 5/1

Brendan Rogers’ side have faced a difficult start to the season and with the added pressure of Champions League football, the Reds will surely look to strengthen again in January.

And with Steven Gerrard not getting any younger and Liverpool in desperate need of more creativity in the middle of the park, Cabaye certainly fits the bill at Anfield.

Newcastle @ 8/1

Many Newcastle fans will point to the departures of Cabaye and Demba Ba as the time things started to go wrong for Alan Pardew and Mike Ashley.

Since the France star’s departure the Toon Army have failed to win a game on the road in the Premier League and now find themselves with just four points from seven games and stuck in the relegation zone.

The midfielder would be welcomed back to St James’ Park with open arms by the Newcastle faithful and with Cabaye worried about his place in the French squad, he would definitely be guaranteed a starting berth.
