Breaking Bets: Home Nations flying all the way to Euro 2016

Published:

Football on the British Isles is bouncing at the moment after the performances of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and England during the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign so far.

With three of the five nations sitting pretty at the top of their respective groups and Scotland and Ireland in second and fourth place in Group D after three matches things are going better than expected for the Home Nations and the Men in Green.

And the latest in Ladbrokes series of Breaking Bets reflects this with all five nations to qualify for the tournament in France available at 40/1.

With the top two teams in each group, and the best third-placed team, qualifying automatically there is an excellent chance for the likes of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to reach a major tournament once again.

And with the rest of the third-placed teams going into a play-off round the Home Nations are thriving in the new qualifying format after week which has produced 10 games, 7 wins, 3 draws, 23 goals scored and 4 conceded.

Impressive stuff!

England, who have picked up maximum points from matches against Switzerland, San Marino and Estonia, are expected to breeze into the 2016 Euros after making a superb start to what is a very easy group.

One down, four to go!

Wales have also made an excellent start to life in Group B and a 0-0 draw with Bosnia has given them an excellent chance of progression at the end of the qualifying campaign.

Tough matches against Belgium and Israel are to come with a testing trip to Bosnia on the agenda as well but with the likes of Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey in Chris Coleman’s squad, this is their best chance in years to end the 58-year wait for qualification for a major tournament.

Northern Ireland are dreaming of a first European Championship appearance after three wins from their opening three matches, including a memorable 2-0 win in Greece last night.

This is the country’s best ever start to any World Cup or European qualifying campaign and on this form future clashes against Finland and Romania won’t scare anybody.

Three down, two to go!

This is possibly where the problem lies with Scotland the Republic of Ireland drawn in the same group but after the excellent draws in Poland and Germany respectively, both countries are in a good position in Group D.

With World Cup winners Germany not firing on all cylinders this group could go right down to the wire but with experienced manager’s Gordon Strachan and Martin O’Neill at the helm, Euro qualification could become a reality – even if one side has to take the play-off route.

So with all five teams sitting pretty, take the 40/1 with Ladbrokes and (hopefully) enjoy watching the qualification ride all the way to France 2016!
