Bournemouth among 3 League Cup upsets worth backing

Published:

English football is all about the magic of the cup and while the League Cup may be Paul Daniels to the FA Cup’s Dynamo there are three underdogs who could have tricks up their sleeves this week.

Bournemouth are one of the form teams in the country at present and will relish the chance to face Premier League opposition at Dean Court.

The Cherries head up our cup upset treble and star alongside Swansea and Brighton in a bet paying out at enticing odds of 89/1!

Read on to see why you should be rooting for the underdogs.

Bournemouth to beat West Brom @ 6/4

Eddie’s Howe’s men are just two points off the Championship summit after a run of four wins on the bounce and come into this game on the back of handing West Brom’s Midlands neighbours Birmingham an 8-0 thrashing.

The Cherries have won three of their last four League Cup home ties without conceding a goal and should Alan Irvine ring the changes the Baggies could struggle to attest a record that has seen them win just one of their last six away games.

Swansea to beat Liverpool @ 19/5

Liverpool’s current plight may have been exaggerated of late but their recent form in this competition is a cause for concern.

The Reds haven’t won any of their last five League Cup encounters inside 90 minutes, while 2013 winners Swansea have lost just one of their last 10.

With the Welsh side claiming a 3-1 Anfield win en route to lifting the trophy two seasons ago a repeat result is on the cards.

Brighton to beat Tottenham @ 13/2

Brighton haven’t beat Spurs since 1983 but having lost just one of their last eight games will travel to White Hart Lane in high spirits.

Tottenham’s mediocre start to the Premier League campaign, coupled with the side’s Europa League commitments, could see Mauricio Pochettino ring the changes to give the Seagulls a boost.
