The 3 future Premier League stars of Euro 2016 qualifying
With England’s two upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers already looking like foregone conclusions ahead of kick-off, we’ve decided to focus our efforts further across the continent to bring you our pick of three players who could one day impress in the Premier League.
Featuring stars from Serbia, Austria and Iceland, read on to get the lowdown on three names who could soon become very familiar to fans of the English top-flight.
Zlatko Junuzovic – Austria
The playmaking midfielder may be 27 but with Aston Villa expressing some interest in signing the Werder Bremen midfielder over the summer, a move to the Premier League could be in the offing, particularly if he continues to impress for Austria.
Possessing a fine passing range that allows him to pull the strings from midfield, Junuzovic also boasts a commendable work rate and is known as much for breaking up opposition play as he is for creating attacking opportunities. He could play a pivotal role if Das Team are to reach the finals in France.
Kolbeinn Sigthorsson – Iceland
Arguably the most established name on this list, Sigthorsson plies his trade for Dutch giants Ajax, where he has racked up a steady 27 goals in 65 appearances in the Eredivisie since moving to the club from AZ Alkmaar but it’s hisexploits for Iceland that deserve the most plaudits.
Over-achievers at international level, Strákarnir okkar came close to reaching the World Cup in Brazil and have started brightly in Euro 2016 qualifying, with both successes helped in no small part by the 24-year-old’s tally of 16 goals in just 24 games, including one in their 3-0 win over Turkey.
Nemanja Gudelj – Serbia
The latest name off Serbia’s seemingly endless conveyor belt of exciting young talent, Gudelj is the kind of ball-winning midfield battler Premier League manager’s dream of and the engine room of a national team desperate to reach the Euro 2016 finals after so many near misses over the years.
Just 22, the midfielder is currently impressing at AZ, helping the Alkmaar side get to within three points of a Champions League qualification place. He wins a high percentage of his aerial duels in the centre of the pitch and has also garnered praised for his passing accuracy. One to watch.
