Welbeck among Premier League signings we can’t wait to see
Published:With the seemingly never-ending conveyor belt of Euro 2016 games finally passed, it’s time to head back to the Premier League with a series of exciting debuts in store.
Last time we left the English top-flight, a raft of big name buys had arrived courtesy of the summer transfer deadline day and with that in mind we’ve picked out five of the new Premier League signings we can’t wait to see.
Featuring all the familiar faces alongside a couple of surprises, read on for the lowdown and a bet tip involving each of the parties involved.
Will Danny Welbeck be the signing of the summer?
Riding high off the back of a two-goal display for England in Switzerland, Welbeck may not have been a regular goalscorer for Manchester United but he remains something of a big game player having netted in several important fixtures for England and the Red Devils over the years.
A goal against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu and the winner in a Euro 2012 clash with Sweden are both highlights and Welbeck could start life at Arsenal with a bang should he find the net against City – having scored another key goal against the Citizens in a 3-2 FA Cup win back in January 2012.
Can Radamel Falcao fire United back to the big time?
The money involved may be mind-boggling but for now let’s just celebrate the fact that one of the best strikers in the world has arrived in the Premier League. His mission is simple: save Manchester United from mid-table mediocrity after a return of two points from the first nine available.
Falcao could be in luck too, with the Reds in action at home against newly-promoted Queens Park Rangers, who have shipped five goals in three Premier League games. One man may stand in his way though…
Has Harry added some steel to QPR with Sandro?
A snip at £6m, Sandro arrives at Loftus Road with something of a point to prove after being jettisoned by London rivals Tottenham Hotspur over the summer. Keen to play more regularly, a stint in the QPR first-team beckons and the Rs will be all the better for it.
An effective tackler with a knack for intercepting attacking play, the 25-year-old will be tasked with adding some bite in the centre of the park for Rangers – much to the potential annoyance of upcoming opponents Manchester United – a team the Brazilian scored against last term.
Is Toby Alderweireld the man to replace Dejan Lovren?
A Champions League finalist, Ajax academy graduate and part of the much-fabled golden generation of Belgian players currently plying their trade across Europe at present, Alderweireld may have been a last-gasp loan addition but he could breathe new life into Southampton’s season.
Capable of playing at either full-back or in a central role, Alderweireld could help fill the void left by Lovren’s departure and may even chip in with a goal or two when required.
Did Newcastle miss a trick with Hull’s Abel Hernandez?
The Magpies were thought to be on the lookout for a new striker during the final hours of the transfer window but while the Toon ultimately toiled to no avail in trying to seal a deal for Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette, nearby top-flight rivals Hull were splashing £9m on Hernandez.
Signed after scoring freely for Palermo in Serie B last term, Hernandez had previously been quoted as describing his “dream” move to Newcastle United. Will the Magpies loss be Hull’s gain?
