Stoke v Newcastle: Hosts to take a slim win over strugglers

Published:

Alan Pardew and Newcastle need to ignite their season, fast. Low on the list of places they’d like to do that though, would be Stoke’s Britannia Stadium.

Mark Hughes’ side were the sixth-best outfit in front of their own fans last term, only losing three times.

That the Potters have lost both their outings there this season should be a glimmer of home for the visiting Magpies, but we see this as a home win our trio of best bets:

Stoke to win @ 23/20

Newcastle are rock-bottom of the Premier League and without a win, in their last six trips to play Stoke they’ve managed just one victory, while the hosts have triumphed in three.

The Magpies’ away form has been poor too, losing six of their last seven day trips in the top-flight, while Stoke won 53 per cent of their home games last season.

Stoke to win 1-0 @ 11/2

In the mirroring fixture last season an Erik Pieters goal sealed a 1-0 win for Stoke in front of their home fans.

The men in red and white have found the Newcastle net in all of their last five home games against them, but with only four goals to their name this season, a spanking looks off the cards.

Stoke to win to nil @ 23/10

With Newcastle so out of sorts this term, their lack of goals isn’t likely to be rescued at the Britannia.

Pardew’s side have failed to score in all bar one of their last seven matches on the road, while Stoke had the fourth best defence at home last season, keeping a clean sheet 37 per cent of the time.
