Singapore GP: Safety car deployment the safest side bet of all

| 17.09.2014

Singapore’s Marina Street Bay Circuit will once again be illuminated as the original Formula One night race takes place for the seventh consecutive year, and we’ve scratched under the surface to find Ladbrokes customers a trio of tasty side bets on the race.

Sebastian Vettel to make the podium 7/4

Despite a ton of bad luck this season, the quadruple world champion has simply owned the streets of Singapore in recent years, winning the last three editions.

The German Red Bull driver turned in the perfect hat-trick in 2013 and if his mechanics can keep his troublesome car on the tarmac all weekend, there won’t be a better track to back Vettel for only his third podium of the year.

Given the Marina Bay layout has more corners than any other race on the F1 calendar, the emphasis on driver ability is a real leveller under the lights.

Safety car to be deployed 1/5

If you have a spare wedge floating around and your bewildered by crummy interest rates then this bet would have landed in all six editions of the race to date.

There has been at least one Safety Car appearance since 2008, as all those corners and the night-time conditions are clearly conducive to incidents.

Lewis Hamilton to make pole position 4/6

Mercedes’ hat-trick man from Monza (as tipped by this humble writer) holds the best qualifying record in Singapore of any driver.

Twice in six races has Hamilton started from the front, and now the Brit has broken Nico Rosberg’s extended run of poles, momentum appears to be his.
