Serena Williams v Ekaterina Makarova: 3 US Open tips

Published:

These days it’s proving increasingly difficult to find a tennis betting tip involving Serena Williams that approaches anything close to value, but after several hours spent examining statistics on Scoresway as well as old matches and bloopers on Eurosport we’ve cracked it.

So for those who don’t fancy backing a Williams win at 1/9 , a straight sets success at 1/3 or an unlikely Makarova victory at 11/2 we’ve got three top tips too good to ignore.

Williams to win first set 6-3 @ 7/2

After cashing-in last time out with my tip on Williams to win the first set of her quarter-final clash with Flavia Pennetta 6-3, I am returning to the well in hopes of a repeat.

Williams has won the opening set of four out of her five US Open matches by a scoreline of exactly 6-3.

Makarova first service game to go to deuce @ 2/1

Williams may have been a little slow coming out of the blocks in the opening set against Pannetta, but she ultimately recovered from a 3-0 deficit to win 6-3 by going on the attack during the Italian’s service games.

Having either broken her or taken Pannetta to deuce in each of her five service games, an early offensive could see Makarova tested, so back an immediate repeat here.

Will there be a tie break in the match? Yes @ 10/3

While Williams ultimately made light work of her Italian opponent in the last round, Makarova is made of much tougher stuff, having seen off Viktoria Azarenka and Eugenie Bouchard to get this far.

She came through an opening set tie break against the latter and after reaching a similar shootout in her last meeting with Williams, don’t be surprised to see a repeat here.
