Ryder Cup bets: Europe backed with a handicap to claim singles

Published:

Forget winter flu, Ryder Cup fever is about to sweep the nation and as is our duty here at News.Ladbrokes we’ve stocked up with vaccines in the form of betting advice.

So without further adieu, here are three bets a away from the boring old overall result markets, you may wish to consider ahead of the most exciting event golf has to offer.

Europe to win the singles with a -1 handicap @ 5/4

While we don’t foresee the Americans capitulating quite as spectacularly as they did when facilitating the ‘Miracle at Medinah’ two years ago, it’s hard to ignore the 9-3 whooping which occurred.

Considering eight members of that crestfallen USA team and seven of the triumphant Europeans will once again line up in Scotland, a Sunday-win for the hosts carrying a -1 handicap sounds infinitely plausible.

Martin Kaymer: Top continental European Points scorer @ 4/1

While Sergio Garcia ranks a pretty solid bet at 6/4, given his impressive season, his Ryder Cup prowess and the likelihood the Spaniard is involved in much of the action – this is a price too good to ignore on Kaymer.

The German can go from sublime to ridiculous on occasion, but the US Open winner’s ‘sublime’ really is on a different level.

Kaymer, of course, sunk the winning putt at Medinah and it’s his expected pairing with Rory McIlroy which adds real gloss to this punt.

Day One winner: USA @ 3/2

USA’s galling loss at the last Ryder Cup owed everything to Sunday’s individual melt down in the singles after two days in command.

After day one in 2012 the pairings had opened up a 5-3 lead, thanks in no small part to Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley winning both their fourballs and foursomes.

The partnership will most likely be resurrected at Gleneagles where Tom Watson’s team will be looking to forge a Friday advantage for the fourth straight Ryder Cup.
