Nishikori well-priced to dump Raonic out in Day 9 best bets

Published:

It’s heating up on both sides of the US Open draw at Flushing Meadows as we attempt to separate more wheat from the chaff in our day nine best bets, which include a fancied outsider to fall.

Kei Nishikori to beat Milos Raonic @ 11/10

This makes for an intriguing fourth-round match as the world number 11 takes on the world number six and it’s the former who is an attractive price to prevail.

On his favourite surface, which has delivered four of his five career titles to date, and leading the head-to-head count 2-1 over Raonic, the Japanese is yet to drop a set en-route to this meeting at Flushing Meadows.

Meanwhile, Raonic has looked slightly off colour in New York. The giant Canadian has been forced to rely on his serve to get him out of jail, already contesting six tie-breaks to get to this point, rendering his 8/11 odds unattractive against an in-form opponent.

Gilles Simon to beat Marin Cilic @ 7/4

Another case of a one-trick pony in the form of big-serving Marin Cilic being priced far too skimpily at 4/9 to overcome a nimble baseline opponent such as Gilles Simon.

As well as dumping out fourth seed David Ferrer in a commanding four-set victory to set up this clash, the Frenchman has won all four career meetings over the Croat, including a five-set tussle at this year’s Australian Open.

Flavia Pennetta to win 2-0 against Casey Dellacqua @ 10/11

Number 11 seed Penetta, who won the prestigious Indian Wells tournament on this surface back in March, should have too much in her locker for world number 30 Dellacqua.

The Aussie underdog has already matched her best performance at a Slam by reaching the fourth round and has dropped sets in each of her last two matches despite not yet facing a fellow seed in New York.
