Misfiring Spurs 13/8 to draw another blank when they head to Arsenal
After being promised a glorious new era of attacking football under Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham Hotspur fans are very much still waiting for that dream to be realised this season.
West Brom’s 1-0 win at White Hart Lane was made all the worse by the fact that this was no smash and grab job, but a deserved result for the Baggies against their lacklustre hosts.
It was the second game in a row Spurs have failed to score in after the 0-0 draw at Partizan Belgrade, and their third blank in four games.
Given the Lilywhites’ troubles in front of goal, Ladbrokes’ 13/8 price that their attacking woes will continue away at Arsenal in their next league game looks very generous indeed.
Spurs lost three times to their local rivals in all competitions last season, with the Gunners keeping a clean sheet on each occasion.
In eight league games against the Premier League’s top four last season Spurs scored in just two, and they didn’t net in all five away games versus the teams that finished above them.
A major problem for the Lilywhites is the dismal form of their strikers, with young defender Eric Dier currently outscoring the misfiring trio of Emmanuel Adebayor, Roberto Soldado and Harry Kane in the league.
Erik Lamela’s improved form is yet to yield any goals, while Christian Eriksen has so far struggled to come to terms with Pochettino’s intense pressing style.
All in all, the period of adjustment at Spurs will surely last beyond the match at the Emirates, and Arsenal, who kept a clean sheet in their last game against Aston Villa, will be confident of withstanding their neighbours’ weak frontline.
