Mayweather v Maidana II: Is Money’s time finally up?

Say what you like about Floyd Mayweather (46-0-0) but the man simply does not shirk a challenge.
Money was surprisingly given a strenuous workout against Marcos Maidana (35-4-0) last time out and wasted no time in giving the Argentine another crack at ending his unbeaten record.
El Chino is arguably at the peak of his powers and, while showing little sign of career fatigue, Mayweather is nearing 38 years-of age and in the twilight of his sporting life.
That said the bookies still have the American billed as the 1/7 favourite, with Maidana a 5/1 underdog and the draw available at 25/1.
With no one getting rich from backing a PBF win here are Ladbrokes News’ three best bets for fight night.
Still not a working man’s price but punters looking to cash in on Mayweather while they still can will find fewer better bets.
Money has 26 career knockouts to date but these days relies more on his speed, accuracy and experience to punish opponents.
The champ hasn’t knocked anyone out since Victor Ortiz in 2011, winning his four bouts since either by unanimous decision (Cotto and Guerrera) or most recently majority decision (Alvaro and Maidana).
El Chino’s four losses have all come by points so don’t expect Money to pick up his first KO in three years here.
With one of the judges last time out scoring the bout 114-114 it would not be too big a surprise to see this fight go the distance again.
However, Mayweather knows what to expect this time round so Maidana will need to change up his game plan and going all out for a stoppage could be his best bet.
The South American likes a brawl – as his 31 career KOs show – and if Mayweather’s age is to come into play his chin could well be put to the test.
The result would send shockwaves through the sport but with the 5/1 outright Maidana win offering nowhere near the return this could be punters’ chance to win big.
Don’t get us wrong, a Mayweather points win is the most likely outcome and therefore our overall pick but if Maidana’s power is to shine through the stats suggest an early stoppage.
Of his 31 KOs, Maidana has been victorious 10 times in the first round, five times in the second, seven times in the third, twice in the fourth and three times in the sixth meaning just four of his stoppages have come in the second half of fights!
