Manchester United win the race for coveted Colombian striker

Manchester United have shaken up transfer deadline day after agreeing a deal to bring Radamel Falcao to Old Trafford on a season-long loan.

Louis Van Gaal’s side are now 16/1 with Ladbrokes from 18/1 for Premier League glory after beating Manchester City and Arsenal to the Colombian international’s signature.

Reports suggest the Red Devils will pay a £12m loan fee to Monaco for the Colombian hitman’s services, while the player will receive a wage close to £200,000-a-week.

The former Atletico Madrid player will now fly to Manchester to complete the deal subject to him agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.

Louis van Gaal’s men have suffered a disappointing start to the campaign, picking up just two points from their opening three Premier League matches and endured a humiliating exit from the Capital One Cup at the hands of League One side MK Dons.

But after signing Argentine forward Angel Di Maria for a British transfer record and adding Falcao, to their ranks, Manchester United are now 4/5 to finish in the top spot and qualify for the Champions League.

They will certainly be boosted by the arrival of a player who scored 52 goals in 68 appearances for Atletico Madrid and found the net 11 times in 20 matches for Monaco.

The Colombian is 10/1 to continue his goalscoring feats in England and finish as the top Premier League goalscorer this season.

But while Falcao’s arrival will delight United fans, it could mean bad news for Robin van Persie with the Dutchman thought to be going under the knife on a troublesome knee.

While the injury was not to be too bad, Manchester United appear to be concerned about their star striker and with rumours of him missing five months of the season LVG has moved to sign a world class replacement.

Falcao’s impending move to Old Trafford could also see Danny Welbeck head for the exit door with club hoping to land £5m in exchange for the England internationals’ services on loan.

And with Javier Hernandez on his way to Real Madrid it’s all change at Manchester United with more names expected through the door before the 11pm deadline.
