Man United skipper again boosted for first England goal after win

On a personal level the start of Wayne Rooney’s new career chapter, as captain of both Manchester United and England, couldn’t have gone better.

The striker has scored in both his Red Devils debut as skipper and as leader of the national team. However, the collective progress of his two sides could have perhaps had better progress.

While Manchester United still await their first win under Louis van Gaal, the England team were criticised in their recent international friendly showing against Norway, despite Rooney scoring the winning goal from the spot in a 1-0 win.

But while Rooney may feel bittersweet about the start of his new armband-wearing role, Ladbrokes customers can feel tremendously pleased with themselves.

Rooney’s goal against Norway saw the bookie pay out on an enhanced price for the forward to score the game’s first goal, which landed backers a win at odds of 9/2.

Now, with Switzerland the next opponents, the Red Devil is again the subject of a Ladbrokes price boost, with his chances to opening the game’s scoring stretched from 11/2 to a far more juicy 7/1 shot.

While playing at home to Norway is a far easier goal scoring proposition than travelling to a side that recently reached the World Cup’s round of 16, the start Rooney has made in front of goal as captain is surely reason enough to back on such lengthy odds.

In case further proof is needed though, Rooney has now scored three times in his last seven England appearances and has two in four games for club and country this season.

England are 2/1 shots to prevail in their first Euro 2016 qualifier, with the draw 21/10 and a home win priced up at 13/8.
