Man United to go all out in bid to land World Cup star

Manchester United will go all out to beef up their defence in January with the continued pursuit of Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels.
The World Cup winner is tied to the Westfalenstadion until 2017 and has only recently been given the captain’s armband by Jurgen Klopp, who insists the 25-year-old is going nowhere.
However, reports suggest that United boss Louis van Gaal is not willing to admit defeat and has ordered the money men at Old Trafford to spend as much as it takes to land the defensive ace.
The Red Devils tried and failed to land the German in the summer but if United progress as expected after shelling out to land the likes of Radamel Falcao, Angel Di Maria and Daley Blind then Hummels could be tempted in the New Year.
Hummels is not the only Bundesliga-based player to have escaped the Red Devils’ clutches during the transfer window, with Thomas Mueller and Toni Kroos also said to have turned down moves to the north-west.
However, those heaping praise on the players for turning down vast sums of money to stay put should reserve their judgement until the winter transfer window has passed.
Turning down a United side in need of investment and out of the Champions League is an easy choice for any player to make.
Should United be occupying a top four spot at the turn of the year, however, will the same players be so keen to shun an opportunity to play alongside the likes of Falcao, Di Maria, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie?
As the oldest cliché in football goes – only time will tell – but if United are gunning for honours over the holiday season then don’t be surprised to see more world class talent arrive, Hummels or otherwise.
United finally picked up their first win of the season and looked a transformed side in the 4-0 win over QPR last weekend.
Next up for the Red Devils is a visit to Leicester City for which Van Gaal’s side are priced as the 13/20 favourites. The Foxes have impressed so far this season though and can be backed at 17/4, while the draw is available at 11/4.
