Liverpool v Everton: Fear of losing to keep Merseyside derby tight

Published:

Saturday is derby day in the Premier League and it all starts early doors at Anfield where Liverpool are in desperate need of rediscovering their mojo against local rivals Everton, themselves in the throes of a domestic wobble.

We’ve already picked out some historical Merseyside Derby trends (link) for punters to latch onto, but below we’ve gone more here-and-now with three other best bets on the 223rd edition.

Under 2.5 goals @ 6/5

Although both defences have been leaking goals like the proverbial faulty plumbing, with both teams arriving in the wrong half of the early league table, this could well be a cagey affair.

Everton haven’t scored a goal in their last three hops across Stanley Park, while the Reds couldn’t find a way past Aston Villa in their last home league game either.

Liverpool and Everton to draw @ 11/4

Liverpool’s raft of new faces have failed to gel as yet, while Everton – with two consecutive losses – are not in the sort of form necessary to break their 14-game winless run at Anfield.

Seven of the Toffees’ last 14 league visits have ended in parity and given neither side can afford to leave empty-handed, a draw could be settled for in the latter stages.

Draw 0-0 or 1-1 in the coupled correct score market @ 18/5

Two seasons previously this fixture returned a stalemate, while based on the previous bets offered this could be the icing on the cake, covering two scores.

Meanwhile, since a pair of 1-1 scorelines back in the 2008/09 season, another one hasn’t been seen since so it’s definitely due a reappearance.
