Leicester Transfer Watch: Foxes also on the hunt for Defoe

Published:

We love a transfer deadline day race and few will be more intriguing than the clamour for Toronto FC striker Jermain Defoe.

It’s been widely reported that Queens Park Rangers and Newcastle have been interested in luring the former England international back to the Premier League with Arsenal and Tottenham also offered his services.

And now we can add another name to that list – Leicester City.

Harry Redknapp’s Hoops are believed to be in the leading position to land their man but could the former West Ham and Spurs striker be tempted by a move to the King Power Stadium?

Ultimately, it appears as if the 31-year-old can take his pick from a number of clubs although a move to London is believed to be his preference.

However, Defoe may have to make his mind up quickly as it’s rumoured that Redknapp is also keeping tabs on Dynamo Kiev’s Dutch international star Jeremain Lens in a deal that could be worth around £9m.

And should QPR’s transfer dealings prove to be too protracted then that could leave the coveted frontman having to explore other options.

Whether he’d wish to join the Premier League newboys remains to be seen.

But from what we do know, ambitious Leicester manager Nigel Pearson and the Foxes’ deep-pocketed owners may be willing to make a bold statement.

Leicester are currently 16/5 to win their next game away at Stoke although that price may well shorten if they could add a striker of Defoe’s calibre to their ranks.

Where do you think Jermain Defoe will end up?
