Ladbrokes St Leger Day 4: Look out for Snow in festival feature

Published:

The day that Doncaster and the racing world has been building up to is finally here with the Ladbrokes St Leger taking centre stage on Channel 4 this afternoon.

Now all that is left for us to do is to try and pick out a winner!

The good news is we’re carrying a bit for form into day four.

Retirement Plan made the frame at odds of 8/1 yesterday while Estimate duly obliged as our Doncaster Cup nap.

And let’s not forget Thursday’s 11/1 winner Shore Step, added to the success of our opening day jolly, Angelic Lord.

So, be inspired and check out who we’ve gone for in the feature race and get involved with our best bets for the final day of the festival.

NAP – Snow Sky – Ladbrokes St Leger Stakes (15:50)

Will trainer Roger Varian let antepost favourite Kingston Hill take his chance in the final classic of the season?

Frankly, we don’t care either way as we’re nailing our colours to the mast with SNOW SKY.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt can reverse last year’s Racing Post Trophy form with his adversary having already beaten many of today’s rivals over the course of this season.

Alex My Boy tempts at a bigger price given his stamina and recent performances while the likes of Queens Vase winner Hartnell and John Gosden’s Forever Now also make obvious appeal.

NB – Bronze Angel – Harriet De-Vere Powell Handicap (18:05)

The ‘lucky last’ isn’t exactly an easy one to solve with a lot of its participants in lousy form.

Jockey William Buick is going for a third straight renewal victory aboard Maverick Wave while summer Sandown winner Velox has performed well in this type of company before.

Elsewhere, Levitate has gone well at Doncaster in the past but would probably prefer a bit more cut in the ground so it’s left for our selection BRONZE ANGEL to pick up the pieces.

Lively Longshot – Algar Lad – Ladbrokes Portland Handicap (14:40)

One of the hottest handicaps of the year has once again thrown up plenty of questions.

If you’re a keen follower of trends it’s worth noting that 9 of the last 11 winners of this renewal were drawn in stall 12 or higher (when the contest has been held at Doncaster).

But we’re ignoring that statistic and going for ALGAR LAD, David O’Meara’s hat-trick chasing upstart.

Aside from that pesky stall trend, our pick has the perfect profile to make a successful step up in class.

Ten of the previous 11 winners have been at double-figure odds so perhaps ignore the likes of Muthmir and Instrinsic while O’Meara’s first string Out Do is another fancy to look out for.
