Ladbrokes St Leger Day 2: It’s right to make Bragging a best bet

Published:

Angelic Lord duly obliged as our Nap on the opening day of the Ladbrokes St Leger Festival and we’re going straight back in to find another winner.

Here are our best bets for day two at Doncaster.

And for those of you who love a bit of value, check out the small print below.

Back a winner at 4/1 or greater and get a free bet up to your unit stake on all Doncaster races throughout the St Leger Festival.*

Plus, Ladbrokes are also offering 1/4 odds a place on all 29 races at the four-day meeting.

NAP – Bragging – Japan Racing Association Sceptre Stakes (14:10)

Plenty of runners in this contest can boast claims however it’s probably best to concentrate on the in-form entrants rather than those living off historical successes.

That rules out Kiyoshi, Joyeusse and Al Thakhira from our equations having disappointed this season following career starts that showed plenty of promise.

Instead, we’re siding with likely race favourite BRAGGING as she bids to follow-up an impressive 7f win at York.

Glorious Goodwood Group 3 winner J Wonder is the principal threat but she has a 3lb penalty to deal with as a result of that success last time out.

NB – MATTMU – Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance £300,000 Stakes (15:15)

The O’Brien partnership of trainer Aidan and jockey Joseph landed this contest back in 2011 with Reply.

But the form suggests that the Ballydoyle operation won’t be taking the spoils this time around with The Great War.

A beaten favourite on two of his last three starts, O’Brien’s juvenile is best avoided while we’re also unsure about Richard Hannon’s Lexington Times, despite his recent gusty third over a furlong longer in Sandown’s Solario Stakes.

Instead, our preference is for a small wager on MATTMU with the Tim Easterby-trained progressive type on a hat-trick following victories at Haydock and Chester.

Lively Longshot – SHORE STEP – Download the Ladbrokes Bingo App Handicap (17:35)

Four of the last seven winners of this contest have gone off at double-figure odds and we’re hoping to pick up some more value here.

Richard Hughes’ mount, SHORE STEP, was a 14/1 winner over this trip at Ascot on his previous appearance and is only upped 5lb for that victory.

Another big run could be in store on Town Moor but no doubt the likes of Mission Approved and recent distance winner Doc Hay will also have a say in proceedings.
