Italy v Netherlands: Depay in top 5 anytime goalscorer tips

Published:

Friendlies can often prove difficult to predict and though Italy head into this encounter with World Cup semi-finalists the Netherlands off the back of just one win in their last 15 non-competitive appearances, those in the Azzurri colours will be keen to impress new manager Antonio Conte.

The Dutch also welcome a new manager in the shape of the all-too-familiar Guus Hiddink, with the visiting Oranje 19/10 to win on the night while a draw can also be backed at 19/10 while an Italy victory can be backed at 29/20 with the bookmakers.

Ahead of kick-off, we profile five players to look out for, with each offering real potential as goalscorers at anytime in this contest.

Antonio Candreva to score anytime @ 9/2

A key component of Italy’s 2-1 victory over England at the World Cup, Candreva boasts something of a pedigree for goals in Serie A, having netted 12 times for Lazio last term. Fond of cutting inside from out wide and shooting from distance, the 27-year-old is one to watch.

Memphis Depay to score anytime @ 13/5

Pursued by Tottenham over the summer after impressing for the Netherlands at the World Cup, Depay will be aiming to pick up where he left off, having netted twice for the Oranje in Brazil. Still thought to be keen on a move abroad, this is a chance to showcase his talents.

Alessandro Florenzi to score anytime @ 14/5

While Gervinho and Miralem Pranjic garnered praise for Roma’s revival last season, special mention should also go to Florenzi, who emerged as one of Italy’s brightest young talents. The 23-year-old scored six goals last season and netted for Italy in a 2-2 draw with Armenia in World Cup qualifying.

Ibrahim Afellay to score anytime @ 10/3

Released from his Barcelona hell by Greek champions Olympiakos, it didn’t take long for Afellay to make an impact at his new club with a goal on his debut for the Thrylos last month. That was enough to see him recalled by Hiddink and he could repay that faith with another goal here.

Ciro Immobile to score anytime @ 2/1

With Mario Balotelli still in something approaching international exile, the goalscoring baton for the Azzurri is passed to Borussia Dortmund new boy Immobile. He may have yet to find the net in the Bundesliga, but 22 goals for Torino last term more than justify his price to score here.
