Why Hull’s awesomeness at transfers makes them top-half gold
Published:Manchester United’s surprise capture of Radamel Falcao dominated proceedings as the clock ticked down on the summer’s silly season.
That left Hull well and truly under the radar, for their numerous impressive acquisitions.
Five players, four of which will be first-teamers, signed on the dotted line at the KC Stadium, taking the total new faces at the club to 11.

Hatem Ben Arfa – Loaned from Newcastle
Before falling out of favour with Alan Pardew at St James’ Park, the Frenchman was a bright spark in the Geordies’ side.
With Bruce favouring a back three so far this term, using Ben Arfa in a central position seems more likely than at wing-back, where his lackadaisical attitude to defending will be exposed. Playing Ben Arfa centrally will certainly ramp up the Tigers’ creativity.
Gaston Ramirez – Loaned from Southampton
Awaking on T-D-Day without a genuine number 10 on his books, Bruce lay his head after a long day with two.
Similar to Ben Arfa in playing style both with and without the ball, Ramirez isn’t likely to share the pitch with the Frenchman very often, but will provide stiff competition to his new creative partner.
Mohamed Diame – Signed from West Ham
Bruce had two of the three parts to a perfect midfield at his disposal in playmaker Tom Huddlestone and box-to-box guy Jake Livermore.
He was able to complete the set in signing the Senegalese, who will provide the necessary steel to anchor the middle of the Tigers’ park.
Abel Hernandez – Signed from Palermo
At £10m the Uruguayan is Hull’s record transfer and an upgrade on Shane Long in the striking department.
With seven goals in 14 international games and 31 in 111 for the Serie A side, Hernandez can feed off Ben Arfa, Ramirez and Huddlestone’s ingenuity to become a Premier League hit.
