Hipster Tipster: Zenit and Juventus in Saturday Bet-a-thon
As Ladbrokes’ resident Hipster Tipster my Saturdays tend to follow a certain schedule: up early in the morning for a spot of Tai Chi, while listening to the Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast, before a quick dash out to my local health food store to stock up on lentils and houmous.
Then it’s back indoors, where it’s scarf off and Crocs to one side, for a day of watching some of the world’s greatest footballers in action, though I don’t include big-boned Brazilian Hulk in that category.
This weeks’ a real football feast, with games starting as early as 11:30am and going on late into the night – 10pm! So have your celery and dip at the ready alongside all the facilities required to make barista-style cappuccinos and lattes – it’s going to be a long one!
The man who made us believe we could all be football manager, AVB is doing a good job at Zenit with a 2-0 Champions League win in Lisbon ending Benfica’s 51-game unbeaten home run. Rostov lost 6-0 to CSKA recently and went down 4-0 last time they hosted league leaders Zenit.
Marcelo Bielsa’s success at L’OM has prompted me to go out and buy my very own safety cord for my Tom Ford designer spectacles and for those seeking a little security with their bet, backing Marseille to win by at least two clear goals for the third week running looks a sure thing.
The place where Bielsa first captured the imagination of Shoreditch-based European football lovers London-wide, and with wins by two goals or more over Napoli and Levante at home already this season, Athletic Club should have enough to see off Granada, who lost 4-0 on their last Bilbao visit.
Jurgen Klopp can say and do no wrong in my book, whether it’s on the subject of Shinji Kagawa or his wife’s latest children’s book, and I am backing his boys to deliver what would be Dortmund’s fifth win by a margin of two goals or more from seven competitive games so far this season.
Like a younger, cooler Jose Mourinho, Milan’s 5-4 win over Parma last week made me violently sick but I am counting on Filippo Inzaghi’s team coming unstuck against a Juve team with back-to-back 2-0 wins to their name and who won 2-0 on their last visit to the San Siro. Take that Pippo!
