Giants @ Redskins: Beat-up hosts to fall to third defeat

Published:

If there was ever a link to be made between the sport we call football and the one the American’s hand the same moniker, it’s that midweek games can seriously disrupt a side’s preparation.

Both the New York Giants and Washington Redskins, who do battle on Thursday night to kick off the NFL’s fourth week, played on the Sunday prior and expect to prioritise recovery over drill-running in the lead up to the clash.

For the Redskins that recovery time is essential as they placed a third of their roster on the injured list following their 34-37 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last week.

One of the men that’ll be missing is quarterback Robert Griffin III. His replacement, Kirk Cousins, threw for a career-high 427 yards in the Eagles defeat, with three touchdowns, but couldn’t get the win. The Skins have lost four straight with Cousins taking the start.

With the hosts so banged up, advantage should go to the Giants, who hold the same 1-2 record as their latest opponents after three weeks.

Eli Manning has thrown 16 touchdowns in his career meetings with Washington, but has 17 interceptions to go with it. He should find plenty of time to find receivers come Thursday though, as his offensive line only allowed the Houston Texans one sack last week.

Manning’s New York side have won six of the last eight trips to play Washington and the 8/5 on them prevailing at FedExField should be snapped up.

Their running back, Rashad Jennings is third in the entire league with 286 yards from 68 carries. He has two touchdowns to go with those numbers and is 5/6 to cross the goal line at anytime, or 7/1 to do it first.

Whoever loses this clash will have the worst record in the NFC East, with the Redskins’ battered-and-bruised squad likely to take the unwanted honour.
