Fury still expected to silence Chisora in ring despite antics
Published:Following a £15k fine, Tyson Fury looked to avoid causing any more offence in his latest press conference alongside Derek Chisora by taping over his mouth in unprecedented scenes.
Having seen their scheduled July fight postponed, the British pair renew hostilities on November 29 at London’s ExCel centre, prompting a first public head-to-head in front of the cameras since their last ill-fated meeting.
On that occasion Fury incurred the wrath of the British Boxing Board of Control for excessive use of a four-letter profanity, leading to a financial penalty.
Fury, never one to miss the chance for some antics, then arrived in front of the waiting media with masking tape covering his mouth, having sworn himself to silence during the remaining two months of build up to the British and European Heavyweight title clash.
The tape had the initials BBBoC scribbled on it, underscored with a host of question marks, ironically poking fun at those who had issued the Manchester-born boxer the fine.
Chisora simply responded by saying he’d knock out his opponent, though he remains the 9/4 outsider to claim the vacant British heavyweight title and successfully defend his EBU belt.
Meanwhile, Fury – who beat Chisora by a unanimous decision back in 2011 and remains undefeated in 22 professional bouts – is the 4/11 favourite.
Fury gestured he would be knocking out his London-based opponent in the first or second round.
David Haye remains the only fighter to have stopped Chisora in his 24 professional contests, though he has lost another three times in his career and Fury’s superior reach should ensure the 6ft 9” fighter beats Del Boy once again.
