Eight matches, split evenly between fourball and foursomes, will take place on the opening day with both captains looking to shape a foothold in the tie.

There’s a very good reason why Paul McGinley has decided to open the Ryder Cup with a fourball session.
The format is Europe’s strongest, having claimed 65½ points to the USA’s 46½ in the 14 Cups since Team GB and Ireland expanded.
While the Europeans thrive in the better-ball sections, their opponents have been in the ascendency when just one dimpled sphere is in play.
Two years ago the US took five points from eight available in foursomes, while they took 3½ of the six available in the rain affected 2010 edition.
Generally, the opening day of the Ryder Cup has been a tight affair. Only twice in the past five editions of the tournament have Europe – the dominant force in that time – managed to score five or more points.
On the other three occasions the men representing the Blue flag have scored between three and four-and-a-half points.
