Eastenders’ producers reveal another twist in hunt for killer

It’s been a story that’s been running since what seems like the beginning of time, but as fingers are pointed and tongues continue to wag, are we any closer to finding our who killed Lucy Beale?

Since her body was found on Walford Common back in the spring, it seems like most of the Square have been implicated in some way in the 21-year-old’s death.

The most recent development has been the questioning of Jay Brown.

Brown was attempting to flee Walford when he was arrested in relation to a robbery, and was subsequently implicated in the murder, when CCTV footage suggested he was on the same bus as Lucy Beale on the night of her disappearance.

Subsequently, he was cut into 4/1 (from 16/1) to be the man behind the heinous crime.

But this week, the show’s executive producer, Dominic Treadwell-Collins possibly put a spanner in the works for those who had believed they had solved the crime with the recent arrest.

He stated that viewers would have to wait until New Year’s Day when a major plot twist in which “the list of suspects will become much, much smaller!”

So as it looks like the big reveal is still a number of months away, is Brown’s arrest coming too soon for the writers to drag the story out long enough?

Others to have been questioned already are Billy Mitchell (66/1), who Beale refused to go into business with, Max Branning (20/1), whom she was having an affair with, and former lover Jake Stone (20/1), though whether the killer’s identity would be so obvious this early seems unlikely.

One person attracting some betting attention is Ben Mitchell.

Phil’s son was revealed to have been released from prison around one month before the murder, and certainly has a history of violence.

In 2012 he inadvertently killed Heather Trott by hitting her over the head with a metal photo frame, and is known to be keen with his fists.

His return to the soap saw him carry out the robbery alongside his adopted cousin, for which Brown is currently in custody for.

At a price of 8/1, Mitchell could be the next to find his price shortening as this storyline gears for yet more twists.
