Deadline Day: Arsenal in talks about deal for Welbeck

Danny Welbeck is reportedly desperate to move to north London with the Manchester United striker trying to force through a move to Arsenal.

According to the London Evening Standard, the England international is at Arsenal’s London Colney training base after training with the Three Lions and is now trying to thrash out his future.

Tottenham are also in the hunt to land the 23-year-old but Welbeck’s preferred destination is the Emirates Stadium and he is now waiting to get the go ahead to negotiate a deal with Gunners.

After Radamel Falcao’s arrival at Old Trafford, Welbeck, is available on either a loan or permanent deal and discussions will now take place with all parties trying to reach an agreement before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

But one stumbling block could be United’s reluctance to sell to Arsenal with the Red Devils preferring the England forward to move to White Hart Lane.

And the Gunners, who missed out on signing Falcao and Loic Remy, are desperate to add to their attacking options with Olivier Giroud out injured until the New Year and just Yaya Sanogo as an out-and-out striker in the squad.

Reports even suggest Wenger has sanctioned a late bid for Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus but the German club have rejected the €40m bid.

Arsenal, who are 12/1 to win the Premier League title, are also looking to strengthen their defensive options with Manchester City centre back Matija Nastasić and Sporting Lisbon defensive midfielder William Carvalho still on the radar.

Elsewhere, it looks as if Joel Campbell will be staying in north London with Benfica failing to convince Arsenal to let the Costa Rica international leave.

According to various sources Campbell’s agent was in London trying to convince the Gunners to let the exciting talent leave but with the deadline for incoming transfers in Portugal passed, that deal looks dead in the water.
